EKISTIC[a] : Mauricio Carlessi

Welcome. Here you will find a not very well organized series of current and past thoughts and projects about (inevitably) design and architecture. Some of these entries might evolve and eventually make it into ekistica.com, currently under construction (who knows until when…) In the meantime please enjoy this blog and feel free to post your comments.

Based in Los Angeles, EKISTIC[a] was founded in 2004 by Mauricio Carlessi and is dedicated to investigating new ways to improve the condition of human settlemets within the parameters of design, research and technology. The term ekistics was originally coined by Constantinos A. Doxiadis and refers to the scientific study of human settlements, including regional, city and community planning and dwelling design. In application, conclusions are drawn aimed at achieving harmony between the inhabitants of a settlement and their physical and socio-cultural environments.

Mauricio Carlessi was born in Lima (Peru) in 1973 and received a B.Arch. from The University of Texas at Austin in 1999. He then moved to Northern California and worked for Chong Partners Architecture as Project Designer. In 2000 he decided to go back to Lima where he collaborated with architects Patty Llosa and Sophie Le Bienvenu, eventually co-founding SITO Arquitectos. Mauricio returned to California in 2004 and obtained a M.Arch. from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. Around the same time he founded EKISTIC[a] in an effort to organize past and current solutions for design and urban questions. In 2005 he joined Callas Shortridge Architects where he currently works as Project Architect for various residential and commercial projects.
